QDI Takes Center Stage as Sole Mechanism for Government Services Access
Queensland Transitions to Modern Digital Identity System
The state of Queensland has officially retired its legacy digital identity system, QGov, and transitioned to a new digital identity system called Queensland Digital Identity (QDI). The QDI is a modern, robust, and innovative system that meets national standards and security protocols for digital identities.
The QDI System: A Single Access Point
The QDI will now serve as the single access point for logging into the state government's online services. Operated by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), QDI was initially developed to support the launch of the agency's digital licence app in 2023.
Migrating Active Accounts and Creating Fresh Ones
A total of active accounts have been migrated, and for those who do not have an account yet, they can create a new one. Users will need to provide identification documents and proof of residency to verify their identity.
Security Features of QDI
The QDI service includes multi-factor authentication via SMS or authenticator apps, Passkey functionality, and supports local biometric login on devices for accessing QDI.
The Benefits of the New System
The transition to the new digital identity system is expected to bring several benefits, including improved security, increased efficiency, and enhanced user experience. The QDI system is designed to ensure secure and interoperable identity verification, allowing users to access government services with confidence.
Partnerships and Integration
The Queensland Government has partnered with the federal government's Digital ID system to ensure interoperability and security. This partnership will enable seamless access to digital identity services across different jurisdictions.
A New Era for Digital Identity in Queensland
The transition to the QDI system marks a new era for digital identity in Queensland, offering improved security, efficiency, and user experience. As the state continues to evolve its digital identity systems, it is expected to set an example for other states and territories to follow.
